Eulogy
We meet here today at Boythorpe cemetery to accompany Paul on the last stage of his journey as we lay him in his final resting place. This place will always hold a special significance for you away from the cares of everyday life. It’s somewhere you’ll always be able to come to be close to Paul, somewhere you can visit to be quiet and to reflect on those special memories. Such as Paul: fishing at Walton Dam with his friends, waiting for that fish to bite cheering on the horses, the Grand National and his love for Red Rum watching Last of the Summer Wine over and over his phone ring tone, Killer Queen being up early, speaking his mind, enjoying watching the sea, eating thick cheese sandwiches, loving being generous to his family and friends and filling a room with his presence What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, because all that we love deeply becomes part of us. Those we’ve loved and have lost walk with us through life, unseen and unheard but nevertheless always there. They are a part of who we are and so Paul will always be there in your mind and in your hearts. Treasure your memories of him and let him bring you joy and comfort. Gone Fishing If someone should ask for me, Tell em heaven is where I’ll be. I’ve finished all my life’s chores, And now I’m fishing on heaven’s shores. The view is grand and the fishing’s great, But I yearn for you as I wait. I’ll save a spot on the rivers bend, For all those I call my family and friend. But for now Walton Dam is where I’ll be, And I’ll make a cast in memory, To all the good times that you had, With me – your friend, your grandad… your dad. And if the fish no longer bite, Or seem no longer worth the fight. ‘Cause it’s me that you are missin, Don’t worry – be happy, I’ve gone fishin.’ Now as we place the ashes of Paul in the ground We give thanks for all that knowing him has given us and taught us and we dedicate this plot to every good and happy memory associated with him. Paul, may you be forever blessed with peace and understanding as you travel on coming to the end of your journey in gentleness and in joy. Rest In Peace
